Industry Oversight

Environmental Oversight

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates and oversees how power plant emissions affect air and water quality. Utilities spend a great deal of money on measures (such as stack scrubbers) to ensure that harmful emissions are kept as low as possible.

Other Oversight

Other regulatory agencies, such as the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), provide oversight over other aspects of the electric utility business.
